People may choose to attend dancing classes for various reasons. Some may attend them because they love to jive and jump, shake their hips while others may attend dancing classes for the tap and tango. Despite these reasons, attending a dance class is one of the most enjoyable ways to pass your time. Other than the fun, health benefits are associated with attending dancing lessons. For instance, it can be a great opportunity for you to lose weight while at the same time maintaining muscle strength. Other health benefits of attending a dance class include the ability to maintain strong bones, improve coordination and posture. Modern dance is also regarded as a way of reducing stress and therefore, improved living standards. It’s also a good way of meeting new people and forming a strong network. On its part, contemporary dance classes combine the many elements of modern dance and lyrical Jazz to help students express their emotions which result in reduced stress.
Dos and don’ts of a dancing class
Like formal classes, there are rules that govern dance classes. Modern schools are accepting students with disabilities. The cost for each class is relatively low as a dancing class will cost you $7- 13. Each class will last for 90 minutes. For first timers, they will fall short of their expectation, and the best way to beat the frustration is attending a different class until you find one that you are comfortable with. Before you turn up for a dancing class, ensure that you dress appropriately. Some lessons such as Jazz and Ballet will require special attire so ensure that you enquire about how you should dress before you turn up. Remember to come early and avoid sharp-edge jewelry as they can hurt your dancing partner. You are not allowed to talk when the teacher is talking.
If you feel like taking a break in the middle of a dance class, ask for permission from the instructor and most importantly, maintain hygiene. Ensure you shower before attending a dancing class and maintain fresh breath. You can bring along a towel that you will use with your sweat. Finally, don’t leave early unless you have a good reason as it will look rude.
Common dancing styles
Dancing styles you chose depend on your culture and preference. Age is also a determining factor as some styles are for young people and the old would find it difficult to adapt. Common dance styles in North America include street dance, modern jive, contemporary dance, ballet and line dancing. Other common forms of dancing include ballroom dancing, salsa dancing, Zumba, Bollywood dancing and tap dancing.
Based on your needs, chose the dancing class that serves you well. Avoid classes that could hurt you. For more information, please check out the The School of Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre website.
